Didier Lombard, Chairman and CEO of France Telecom, will outline the telecom giant’s audiovisual strategy as part of the conference program at the 45th MIPTV featuring MILIA, the world’s audiovisual and digital content market.
Didier Lombard will give a keynote address on Wednesday 9 April under the title “Inventing a New Media TV Experience,” in which he will present his vision of France Telecom - Orange’s mobile and Internet brand – in the audiovisual sector through its “TV Everywhere” service. This draws on the group’s technological and marketing innovations to offer television “where I want, when I want, how I want”, available across all screens, with on-demand content, interactive services and personalised advertising.
“Didier Lombard’s presence at MIPTV featuring MILIA 2008 shows how much convergence between telecoms and traditional television has become a reality,” comments Paul Johnson, Director of the Television Division at Reed MIDEM. “With 170 million customers throughout the world and as many potential viewers, France Telecom is a major player in the international content market.”
Didier Lombard began his career in 1967 with CNET, now France Telecom’s Research and Development Division, and contributed to the development of numerous products for France Telecom in the areas of satellite, electronic components and mobile systems.
Between 1988 and 2003, Didier Lombard worked for the Ministry of Research and Technology and the Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Industry. In 1998, he became the Founding President of the French Agency for International Investments.
Didier Lombard joined the France Telecom Group in 2003 as Managing Director, in charge of Technology Missions, Strategic Partnerships and New Uses of France Telecom.
In February 2005, Didier Lombard was named Chairman and CEO of the Group. He also sits on the boards of Orange, Thomson and Thales, and is a member of the supervisory boards of Radiall and ST Microelectronics.
Today, France Telecom is the third largest mobile operator and the leading ADSL Internet service provider in Europe, and is among the world’s leaders in telecommunications services to multinational corporations.
The France Telecom Group serves more than 170 million customers in five continents, two-thirds of them under its Orange brand. The group generated consolidated revenue of 52.9 billion euros in 2007. As of 31 December 2007, the group counted 109.7 million mobile clients and 11.7 million broadband (ADSL) clients.
Launched in June 2005, the company’s NExT programme (New Experience of Telecommunications) is designed to facilitate the group’s transformation into an integrated operator, with the aim of turning France Telecom into the operator of reference for new telecommunications services in Europe.
The conference programme of MIPTV featuring MILIA is this year based on the theme of “Audience on the Move,” and will examine the latest international trends in programming, advertising, broadband distribution, telco-media convergence, social networking and mobile media.
The 45th MIPTV featuring MILIA takes place in Cannes from 7 to 11 April 2008.
